Lead paint as the name is applied can be found in homes built before the late 1970s on painted surfaces such as walls, ceilings, windows sills, and window troughs. Lead Paints contain lead, known to be toxin and health hazadourus. Lead was added to paint because it was very effective in a number of ways. It made the paint very hard wearing with the lead carbonate creating a spectacular bright white gloss finish. Lead also made the paint dry harder and quicker.

When intact, lead paint poses no immediate health threat, however when it starts flaking, peeling or if you start removing without proper personal protective equpments it becomes dangerous for your health. These can be through air, drinking water, food, contaminated soil, deteriorating paint, and dust. Airborne lead enters the body by breathing or swallowing lead particles or dust once i t has settled. Initially, lead poisoning can be hard to detect — even people who seem healthy can have high blood levels of lead.
